Upcycle jeans met geborduurde madeliefjes

Tijdens een heerlijke zonnige vakantie in Bretagne, kwam ik in Rennes een creatief borduurpakketje tegen met motiefjes en garen om kleding mee te upcyclen. Er zat ook een motief van een rij schattige madeliefjes bij. Toevallig had ik de jeans ingepakt die ik eerder heb gepimpt met een extra high waist en fringe dus ik zag meteen mogelijkheden... In het pakketje zat alles wat ik nodig had en het leek me een ideaal vakantieprojectje!  

During my sunny holiday in France, Brittany, I came across this creative embroidery kit for upcycling clothes in a store in Rennes. The kit came with everything I needed for a quick embroidery project: patterns, yarn and needle! Coincidentally, I'd packed the jeans I pimped last year (high waist and frayed hem). So I knew just what to do with the pattern of daisies. The perfect holiday project!

Aangekomen op de volgende camping, een half uurtje rijden vanaf St. Malo, opende ik op een middag het pakketje om aan de slag te gaan. Er zaten leuke motiefjes bij van onder andere bloemen en bijtjes en quotes om kleding ermee te pimpen. Ook was er uitleg over de borduursteken (was soms wel nodig) en garen in allerlei kleuren. De motiefjes waren afgedrukt op 'papier magique', jawel! Dat bleek oplosbare vlieseline te zijn maar 'papier magique' klinkt nu eenmaal wat spannender. Ik koos de madeliefjes uit en plaatste de zelfklevende strook langs de ingang van de linker broekzak. Klaar om te borduren!

Having arrived on our next campsite, about half an hour drive from St Malo, I opened the package. It contained ideas of how to upcycle your clothes with embroidery, several colors of yarn and a detailed explanation on the different types of stitches. And.... the most important part: patterns on 'magical' fabric! Which turned out to be soluble interfacing, but 'magical' sounds way much better. I chose the row of daisies and placed the self adhesive pattern alongside the left front pocket. Ready to go!

Bezoek tijdens het borduren

Ondertussen kregen we ook nog gezellig bezoek op de camping.... Deze prachtige poes hoorde waarschijnlijk bij een van de huizen in de buurt van de camping, ze zag er erg verzorgd uit. Maar ondanks de korte kennismaking, had ze er geen moeite mee om meteen bij wederhelft D. op schoot te springen. Het was wel teleurstellend dat ze geen enkele interesse in mijn handwerk toonde, ze was vooral geïnteresseerd in aaitjes.

'Ja, lekker in mijn nekje, ja daar...' 

While I was busy embroidering, we got an unexpected visitor, a beautiful cat, well taken care off, that probably belonged to one of the houses nearby the campsite. In spite of our short introduction she immediately jumped on the lap of my other half D. Disappointingly, she showed no interest in my handycraft, she was only interested in some good stroking.

A little orange makes all the difference!

Na een paar uurtjes borduren, werkte ik de madeliefjes af met een dubbele oranje Franse knoop. Het was geen grote klus, in een middagje was ik klaar, maar wat was het heerlijk om te doen. Helaas was de naald bij het pakketje wat stomp, waardoor het niet makkelijk door de spijkerstof ging. Dat heb ik 's avonds in mijn vingertoppen gevoeld! 

After a few hours, I finished embroidering the daisies with an orange french knot. It was a small project that didn't take that long, but it was so much fun to do! Even though the included needle was a little blunt, which made it harder to go through jeans fabric. I could definitely feel it on my fingertips afterwards! 

Voor en na

Toen ik klaar was met borduren, hoefde ik alleen nog maar de oplosbare vlieseline er voorzichtig vanaf te wassen. Dat was alles. Mijn jeans was (opnieuw) gepimpt met een rijtje prachtige madeliefjes! 

When the embroidery was done, I only had to wash off the soluble interfacing and that was it. My jeans were now upcycled (again) with beautiful daisies!
