Sometimes you fall for a blouse or top and you don't really know why. And you'd completely understand if someone else wouldn't so much as take a second glance at it. And it feels like it's meant for you. I'm probably exaggerating, but you get the idea. That's how I felt with this second hand blouse. The shape, the three quarter sleeve with slit, the print with cute black and silver flowers and branches. But it was too fitted for me, but that was something that could be changed, right?
Anyway, this blouse obviously needed some adapting to me, so to say, so here it goes.

The problem with this blouse was that is was too fitted, I needed about 3 inches extra (7cm). It had large darts, 2 in the front and 2 in the back, and where there are darts, there are extra cm of fabric! Hopefully unpicking the darts would provide the width I needed.
Stap 2
After I'd unpicked the 2 darts in the front and the 2 in the back, I had my first fitting.... The blouse fitted, but was in my opinion too tight. I know there're people who like their clothes very fitted, but not me. I like my freedom of movement, without having to wonder if my blouse is gaping (or worse).
So I decided to shorten the sleeves to get some extra fabric. I unpicked the cuffs and cut a strip of 4 cm width.
--------------------

You don't mind me watching you sew, do you? |
I unpicked the side seams under the armpit till and opened the gap till about 2,5 cm (widest point). Then I pinned the extra fabric under the opening (above picture on the left). While stitching, Xommy came sitting on my lap to check if everything was going ok. And it was, because when I had another fitting, the blouse turned out to be wide enough for my liking.

If you've been here before, you know that every once in a while I love to embellish my clothes with embroidery. The details on this blouse called for some embroidery. I mostly embroidered the collar: a few leafs, an extra flower (reinforced with interfacing) and I stitched a few branches. Maybe I'll add some more embroidery with a silver thread, I might.
