Zomerse top van overhemd en das

 

Een paar weken geleden kocht ik 3 stropdassen bij de kringloop. Nadat ik van 2 stropdassen een stijlvolle sash (zie eerdere post) had gemaakt, bleef er nog een stropdas over om iets leuks mee te doen. Van deze das en een overhemd (ook van de kringloop) besloot ik een zomerse top te maken!

A few weeks ago, I bought 3 neckties at a thrift store. I turned 2 of them into a stylish sash, so there was one left for another fun project. I decided to turn the last necktie and a men's shirt (also from the thrift store) into a summer top. 

Stap 1
Om te beginnen, knipte ik de mouwen, kraag en schouders af. Dat deed ik op de paspop, zodat ik goed kon zien wat ik af kon knippen.

Even aan de kant das, ik kom langs met de schaar!

I started with cutting off the sleeves, the collar and the shoulders. Beware of the scissors, necktie!

Stap 2
Het overhemd was maat L, een beetje te groot dus, en bovendien wilde ik een meer vrouwelijke pasvorm. Op de paspop kon ik goed zien wat ik kon afspelden om in te nemen.

The men's shirt was a size L, and I wanted a more feminine shape. So I used the tailor's dummy to places pins where I could take in the fabric. 

Daarna knipte ik de armsgaten bij en controleerde of links en rechts gelijk waren (Oeps, niet helemaal). Ik sloeg de rand dubbel om en stikte dit vast.

Next, I trimmed the armholes a little, making sure that both sides were equal (no unnecessary check, I'm afraid). I folded the edges double and stitched it.

Stap 3
Nu de pasvorm van de blouse goed was, deed ik de blouse terug op de paspop om te kijken hoe ik de stropdas wilde spelden. Zie je wat mijn idee was? Na een paar pasbeurten en nog een paar aanpassingen was ik tevreden.

Now that the blouse had a better shape, I put it back on the tailor's dummy. I had an idea about how I wanted to create a collar with the tie... but would it work? After a few fittings and some more alterations I was satisfied.

Voordat ik de stropdas definitief op de blouse kon vastmaken, moest ik de bovenranden van de blouse nog afwerken. Ik was erachter gekomen dat er boven nog een paar centimeter af mocht. Daarnaast wilde ik de randen rimpelen om ze mooi gelijkmatig onder de das te verdelen. 
Nadat ik de bovenkanten iets korter had geknipt, maakte ik een omslagje van de rand. Daar haalde ik een draad door zodat ik makkelijk kon rimpelen. Dat deed ik bij beide panden.

Before I could attach the necktie on the blouse, I had some other steps to take. I'd noticed that I could cut off a few centimeters from the top of both pieces. The plan was to gather the blouse at the top, so I could evenly spread the fabric before pinning it onto the necktie. After cutting off the excess fabric, I folded the edges and stitched it. This created a small tunnel. Next, I pulled a thread through the tunnel so I could easily gather the fabric. I repeated the proces on the back piece. 

Stap 4
Vervolgens spelde ik de stropdas opnieuw op de blouse. Het enige dat nu nog moest gebeuren is vastnaaien.

Now that the front and back piece were gathered, I pinned the necktie back on. There was only one thing left to do... sew!

 

     Fabric doesn't make the dress... it's the stitches!

Voor wie het zich nog afvroeg:), door de onderste knopen open te doen van de blouse, kun je er prima in.

Unbuttoned, I can still get the top on, don't worry...
