De kans is groot dat het je een keer overkomt: je strijkt per ongeluk iets te heet en voor je het weet smelt of schroeit de stof! In mijn geval was de stof nog in de smeltfase en was er geen schroeiplek, maar de beschadiging was onherstelbaar en erg zichtbaar. Helaas helaas, was de blouse net nieuw (zul je net zien) en het ging tegen ál mijn principes in om de blouse al op te geven. Maar hoe los je zoiets op?
It happens to all of us: the iron is too hot and causes burnt fabric or scorch marks. In my case the fabric had started melting. Such a shame, because marks like this are usually very visible and beyond repair. in addition, the blouse was as good as new and it was against my principles to give up on my blouse so soon. But how to fix it?
Stap 1
Het kostte wel wat denkwerk (en dagen) om een oplossing te verzinnen. Mijn eerste gedachte was om te proberen er figuurtjes of bloemetjes op te borduren, maar ik was bang dat je dan toch de gekreukelde stof zou zien. Het bedekken met iets van stof zou een betere oplossing zijn. Een week of 2 later zag ik op de markt een restje kant in precies dezelfde kleur (ben zelfs nog naar huis gefietst en blouse opgehaald voor de zekerheid). Nu nog bedenken 'hoe' ...

It took a lot of thinking (and days) to come up with a solution. My first idea was to add embroidery of little shapes or flowers. But I was afraid you'd still be able to see the wrinkled fabric. Next, I thought of covering it up with a patch or fabric. A week or so later I ran into this beautiful lace on the market in pretty much the same colour! I went back home to pick up my blouse, so I could check if was the same colour (it was, yay!). Now I had to figure out how I wanted to use the lace. Then these vintage blouses came into my mind, with lace ruffles at the centre front and gathered lace cuffs with lace. Yes, something like that could work...
Ineens moest ik denken aan die vintage blouses met een kanten ruffle middenvoor langs de knopen, en met gerimpelde kanten manchetten. Met die stijl in mijn achterhoofd plooide ik het kant langs het armsgat net over de beschadigde stof.
Inspired by the gathered ruffles, I draped the fabric with small pleats along the armholes so it would cover the damaged fabric.

Stap 2
Om te benadrukken dat het kant zo bedoeld was, wilde ik het net zoals je vaak ziet bij vintage blouses aan de manchetten zetten.
Men neme 2 stroken elastisch kant, ongeveer 1,5 keer de breedte van de gerimpelde manchetten... (ik had gelukkig nog genoeg over). De korte zijkanten maakte ik dicht en ik spelde het kant aan de gerimpelde manchetten. Bij het spelden en naaien rekte ik de stof (en kant) uit.
To make it more intentional, I also wanted to add the lace to the cuffs. Fortunately, there was enough lace left for this. I took two strips, 1,5 times the width of the cuffs. Then I closed the short sides and pinned and sewed the lace along the cuffs, stretching the lace and the cuffs at the same time.
