Van mini naar maxirok

Iets meer dan 10 jaar geleden kocht ik deze minirok. Tegenwoordig, nu mijn benen ook ongeveer 10 jaar ouder zijn:), voel ik me iets prettiger in een langere rok. Maar het liefst wel een rok die lekker licht om je benen zwiert. Met een couponnetje dunne viscose toverde ik de minirok snel om een zomerse maxi-rok!

I bought this blue miniskirt about 10 years ago. Today, my legs are also about 10 years older en frankly, I feel a lot more comfortable in a long skirt. That's why I used a leftover coupon of lightweight viscose to transform the mini skirt in a summery maxi skirt!

Stap 1
De inspiratie voor deze refashion komt van een project dat ik een jaar geleden tegenkwam met een spijkerrokje op knipmode.nl. Ze gebruikten hiervoor een rechte lap stof en ik vond het zo'n geweldig idee dat het in mijn hoofd bleef. Tot ik mijn blauwe minirokje onlangs tegenkwam bij een opruiming. En de donkerblauwe voile-achtige stof paste er perfect bij!
Mijn patroon heeft is iets anders, maar als het je wat lijkt, is het de moeite om het voorbeeld van Knipmode te bekijken. Eventueel kun je het patroon bestellen.  

I was inspired by a project I saw on knipmode.nl about a year ago. It was so simple and effective that I kept the idea somewhere in the back of my head, until I recently ran into this skirt in my closet. My pattern is a little more complicated than the project on knipmodel.nl, but if you're considering the idea, take a look on the site for inspiration or the pattern that they used.

Ik heb mijn patroon overgenomen van een rok met geometrische hoeken die bijzonder mooi valt. Het patroon dat je ziet, is de helft van een voor- of achterpand, dus 1/4 van de totale rok. Ik heb het patroon op op dubbele stof (stofvouw links) 2x uitgeknipt. Boven zie je 1/4 van de totale taille en de schuine delen zijn de zijnaden. 

I traced the pattern from a maxi-skirt with a geometrical form that makes the skirt fall beautifully. The pattern is a quarter of the full skirt and is placed on fabric with a fabric fold on the left side. The waist is on top and the diagonal line will be the side seam.

Stap 2

Het patroon was getekend en geknipt, dus ik kon begonnen met spelden. Als eerste spelde ik de schuine naden van de voor- en achterpanden aan elkaar. Helaas had ik het patroon net iets te ruim gemeten (rechter foto) om precies aan te sluiten op de rok, dus bij het naaien moest ik ongeveer een voetje smaller naaien. 

Ontspannen is... lekker buiten spelden op mijn knie (niet 'in') 

Now that the pattern was traced and cut out, I could move on to the next step. First, I pinned the side seams of the front and back. As you can see on the right picture, the pinned seam didn't completely match the the seam of the mini skirt, so I had to sew that about a footwidth to the left. 

Natuurlijk even proberen hoe de rok valt en bepalen wat een goede hoogte is voordat ik te veel van de minirok afknipte. Maar het zag er tot dusver allemaal nog goed uit!

Of course, I had to try how my new maxi skirt was going to fall. So there was some fitting, pinning and adjusting, before I cut off some length from the miniskirt. So far it's all looking good!

Stap 3

Nadat de zijnaden dicht waren genaaid, kon ik de bovennaad van de maxi rok aan de minirok vastspelden. Persoonlijk vind ik spelden het lastigste, als alles goed zit, is naaien eigenlijk een fluitje van een cent. Maar dat vertel ik Husky natuurlijk niet...

Having closed the side seams, I could now attach the maxi part to the mini skirt. Personally, I think sewing is the easy part, pinning and making sure the fit is right, that's the hard part. But let's not tell Husky...  

Stap 4

Als laatste moest ik de zomen van mijn nieuwe maxi-rok afwerken. Ik besloot een variant op een rolzoom te doen. Oftewel een smalle locknaad die mijn machine nog wel voor elkaar krijgt en die er van een afstandje prima uitziet:). De eindjes nog even mooi wegstoppen en voilà, klaar is de rok!

The last thing I had to do, is finish the hems, so I decided to put my serger at work. My serger can produce something that looks like a nice rolled hem. It also is supposed to produce a real rolled hem, but I've never been able to manage that, so I'm settling for second choice. Looks good enough for me!
